An open call for columnists

We're always happy to find new writers for the monthly BHQ Columns. Typically, columnists get drafted from those balloon artists who make themselves famous (notorious?) for writing long, well thought out, informative, and inciteful posts on the email forums. However, you too can become a BHQ Columnist.

It doesn't matter whether you're ready for the challenge of a regular column, or just have one hot idea that everyone's privately e-mailing you about. Business strategies, sculpture instructions, theme ideas, or event reviews... any balloon-related topic is fair game! Do you frequently find yourself preparing to draft a lengthy email to the balloon list about a recent discussion? Are you working to take step-by-step pictures of your best balloon figure to email to 5 of your collegues? Well, you'd be the perfect addition to the BHQ pool of columnists.

New BHQ Staff member John Barthelmes of Rochester, NY works diligently to get the columns on-line by the first Monday of every month. Recent columnists are sent an invitation for submission of a new column on the 15th of each month. If you'd like to contribute, let us know by sending a note to editor@balloonhq.com.

The Qualatex Event

The Qualatex Event last month was a great success, the competition pieces were to a very high standard. Lots of networking happened throughout the weekend when people weren't rushing from class to class. This is to be an annual event somewhere in Europe which provides quality teachers from all over the world. The Awards dinner was amazing with cabaret and wall to wall food. In all, The Qualatex Event is well worth putting in your Diary for next year. To see what happened this year why not check out This year's photos.
Balloon Scrap Collage by Ryan Oelrich
Balloon Scrap Collage, Yellow Flower

Featured artist portfolio: Ryan Oelrich

In addition to large scale sculptured and traditional decor, Ryan Oelrich of Balloon Bonanaza! in Spokane, WA likes to create decorative collages with frgaments of popped balloons. His forays into "balloon scrap artwork" reinforce what we already know and appreciate. Balloons are another important art medium for murals and sculpture... just like paints, paper, flowers, scrap metal, or ice.
