In more than a decade and a half that BHQ has been around, it's not surprising that some features of the site get used less frequently than they did in the past. It's also not surprising that as the web matures and new technologies come along we need to update things and add new features. We get requests all the time and we are listening. While I have nothing new to announce at this moment, I want to bring up a couple of things that are on the newer side but that aren't used as much as I expected. Maybe they just haven't been talked about enough.
The most recent new feature has only been around a few months. Thanks to Qualatex, we have the Qualatex Recipe Collection. New step by step recipes are added from time to time that you can use in your own decor.
I've been asked few times recently about ways of seeing the latest things posted to BHQ at a glance. This surprised me since we have a way of doing that. BalloonHQ.net is a front door to BHQ that's designed to show you just the most recent postings in the forums, the photos, the recipes, classifieds, news items, and other things that come up. A few suggestions were just given to me to improve on what we're currently offering there. Hopefully some of those suggestions can be implemented soon.
We have a couple of really cool new things coming. I'll hold off on reporting those until they're ready. For now, I'll just offer that little tease that we're working on stuff for you.
It's that time again when we remind everyone that Balloons Around the World is coming up. This is the ninth year of this amazing event when artists from around the world all show off balloon art in some form or another just for the fun of sharing the art. In the words of Jeff Brown, the founder of the event, it's "an event designed to highlight the act of giving, to deliver thousands of smiles, and to showcase the art of balloon twisting and decorating."
If you've never taken part in the event before, consider doing it this year. You can sign up on the web site to let the others in your community and around the world that you'll be giving on that day. It doesn't have to be a lot. it can be just an hour of your time. Or it can be a full day project. Just have fun!
Balloon HQ was out in force once again enjoying the sights and sounds of Las Vegas this past August as it attended and handled photo coverage of three fabulous back-to-back events. Diamond Jam 2008.5, Summer Balloon Camp and the Couture Fashion Show. Mark Balzer took photos of Diamond Jam, John Barthelmes covered Summer Balloon Camp, and Larry Moss was busy working on his own dress designs for the Fashion Show. Congrats to all the winners (you can find a complete listing on the links above) especially Robina Bernard - winner of the Dottie Blanchard Spirit Award, Melissa Gjergji - winner of the Designer of the Year Award, and Debbie Stevens - winner of the Balloon Couture Competition!
The big announcement for next year is that Diamond Jam will take place August 7, 8 and 9. Summer Balloon Camp will be August 9, 10 and 11. That means there's a one day overlap of both events where participants of Diamond Jam can take Summer Balloon Camp classes, and participants of Summer Balloon Camp can take Diamond Jam classes. And the Balloon Couture Fashion show will take place again next year, and every year to follow!
