If you are a family man or woman, you know this because you see the effects (and consequences!) in your family unit, both with immediate family members and even the extended ones. As an entertainer there are the folks, children and adults alike, who may have undoubtedly approached you to tell you in no uncertain terms how they feel about you. They will often wear wide smiles and exclaim things like "You were great! , o' “You’re so clever!". Perhaps they may say things like, "We just love watching you create."
Then there are the not-so-obvious folks that may send you a note while you're still at the event, or maybe even mail it to you. They may write things like, "My teen son really enjoyed when you stopped by our table to make balloon animals. He's been having a really tough time lately and your interaction with him means more than you'll ever know."
Sometimes, the folks you think were effected the least, because they may not have reacted the way you thought someone should, are the ones that enjoyed your performance the most. They are the ones that may have sat stony faced and non-emotive during your act. However, upon a later discussion, post performance, those seemingly stony faced folks were really taking everything you did in.
Let's not forget the lucrative gig you may have booked for a client just because one of the board members took her grandkids to the fair and saw you cranking out balloon sculptures for a line a mile long. Your designs for the event may not have been multi-balloon pieces of art, but because of the way you interacted, something about you, that the grandmother loved. And now your annual income from that client alone is at four or five figures.
Whether it's a local celebrity, someone's grandmother, or a troubled teen, you are always being watched. Whether you are an entertainer or in line at the checkout, you are always being watched. Somebody, somewhere is being effected by you and often it's when you least expect it.
Whether you realize it or not, you have great impact.
