Still Loving the New 160 Colors

Hello everyone,

I'm still having lots of fun working with all the new 160 colors. Now that we have 2 shades of brown, I'm re-working some of my designs to feature the new colors. The Qualatex Cocoa Brown looks great with the new Betallatex Brown which has more red tones. They both look great with the new Betallatex Gold and Marigold for a Fall color pallette.

I've reworked the turkey from my newest book using an orange 6" link-o-loon, 3 Betallatex browns, 1 Qualatex brown, and Qualatex Standard red, yellow and orange balloons. I think he looks good enough for a centerpiece but not the main course.

I'll have some more brown designs next month.

Lauren Pettit from Orange County, CA also loves twisting with 160s and the new colors especially the opaque and metallic colors. Try Lauren's directions for single color or two-tone roses.

The rose is not an exact recipe.

Step 1: Inflate a 160 in whatever color you want the rose about 3/4 full. (I find they work better if I don't get too ambitious and try to make the rose too big.) Make 3 pinch twists.

Step 2: Inflate a green 160 about 3/4 full and wrap the knot around the pinch twists to attach. (The stem is going to help hold the rose in place as you wrap it.) Make 3 1" bubbles and wrap them around the pinch twists. (You have to follow what the shape tells you to do sometimes you will wrap over the top, other times under, or along the side. You also have to hold the rose together with your hands as you do this so it doesn't unwind.)

Step 3: Progressively make the bubbles (petals) a little longer as you wrap, trying not to let the twisted spot in-between the petals line up in too many places. Where they do meet, you may want to grab a scrap and tie a knot to secure. If I make the rose small enough, I only need to attach the balloon at the end of the last petal.

Step 4: Make 3 small fold twists with the green balloon very close to the base of the rose to form the calyx. (They will keep the rose from unwinding. I like to make 2 very small loop twists for leaves a little further down, but this is optional.)

For a two-tone rose, after you make the 3 pinch twists with the first balloon and attach it to the stem, attach another balloon of a different shade just like you attached the stem. Wrap and twist the two balloons under and over each other, going towards each other.
