My Favorite Horse Hat

Patricia Bunnell

I've chosen to use Blush and Mocha 350q as my colors for this horse. It looks spectacular in any color. Needless to say... you are not locked into these two colors, I've used them only for ease in writing this article.

Happy New Year!

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
Step 1 Step 2 Step 3

Step 1: Inflate a 350q Leaving a 6 inch tip. Make two pinch twists for lips.

Step 2: Make a 9-10 inch bubble. Make a series of three 2-inch bubbles.

Step 3: Pinch twist the first and last bubble.

Step 4 Step 5 Step 6
Step 4 Step 5 Step 6

Step 4: Now lock twist that cluster of bubbles. This forms the ears and top of the horses head. Set aside.

Step 5: Inflate two Mocha 260's leaving a half inch tip. Stretch these balloons. Make an 8 inch loop on one of the balloons.

Step 6: Attach the other Mocha in at the base of the loop.

Step 7 Step 8 Step 9
Step 7 Step 8 Step 9

Step 7: Attach the Mocha balloons under the ears/head.

Step 8: It should look like this when you're finished.

Step 9: Spiral twist the two Mochas and twist them into the blush balloon at about 12 inches or so. Deflate the rest of the blush balloon enough to make a large pinch twist. This helps hold the neck and head up.

Step 10 Step 11 Step 12
Step 10 Step 11 Step 12

Step 10: Wrap the two Mochas around the child's head. Make a pinch twist.

Step 11: Spiral twist the rest of the two Mocha balloons and lock twist them. Don't worry if the tail is short. It look's great if the tail sticks straight up... like it's proud. It actually looks better with a shorter tail this way. OH... try to make both balloons in the spiral even.

Step 12: Flatten a 350 and attach it to the lips. Wrap it around the neck and finish off by twisting it in at the lips (again). Discard any remaining balloon. This is the bridle/bit. I'm not a horse person... so if I have it wrong, you get the idea. Add artwork (eyes) and you have a VERY impressive horse hat!
