Well, it's been a long time since we've heard anything out of Billy; so my second article will be a new story about Billy the Blue Balloon Dog. I've done several programs using Billy all ready, and the kids have loved it. This month's Billy story: Billy and the Broken Promise.
Billy and his friends were in the park one day, enjoying a picnic. Billy munched happily on an apple, when his friend Sandy the Red Mouse looked at him.
"Hey Billy," Sandy said, tilting her head. "We have that presentation to do, can you come over tonight so we can work on it?"
Billy swallowed his apple and smiled, nodding. "No problem Sandy!"
Sandy smiled as well. "You promise?"
Billy nodded and he date was set. However, when Billy went home, his mother had many things for him to do. He had to feed his little sister, clean his room, mop the floors, and dust the shelves. By the time he was done, it was all ready much too late and he had to go to bed.
The next day at school, Billy walked into his classroom and there sat Sandy, looking ever so tired. Billy walked over to apologize but Sandy wouldn't look at him. He bit his lip and returned to his seat. Why was Sandy so mad at him? It wasn't his fault he couldn't make it.
Billy felt awful the rest of the day. When it came time to give their presentation all he could do was stand there and hold it. Sandy had done all the work, and Billy felt guilty. There had to be some way that he could make it up to her.
A few days later, Billy was hushing people in Sandy's kitchen. "Shh! Shh everyone, here she comes!"
When Sandy the red mouse entered her kitchen, all of the lights went on and the room of people screamed "SURPRISE!" Verdi, the brown bear, gave Sandy a handful of balloons. The poor mouse looked confused.
"What is going on here?" she asked.
Billy smiled. "I felt very guilty about breaking my promise to you, Sandy. I got a few of our friends together and we decided to throw you a party!"
Sandy looked very surprised, and she hugged Billy. Billy smiled and snapped a Party hat on her, and they drank punch and ate cake the rest of the night.
