Sounds to me like the new association you are describing is already in 
effect. ISES, International Special Events Society. This organization 
consists of members in many different event disciplines: caterers, florists, 
AV, entertainers, event planners, balloon artists, you name it. They hold a 
convention with a large tradeshow in January every year, The Special Event. 
This year it was in San Diego and will be in New Orleans in 2001. They also 
have a Conference for Professional Development in August. There are many
