I think the other responses may have confused your question. Or maybe I have.
It sounds like you are building a heart shape or star shape on a frame. If so
I offer this advice.
A four foot heart: This would mean a heart shap that is approximately 4 feet
high and would use a frame of about 12 feet to form the shape. I would use 5"
balloons sized to 4". Create duplets and combine3 2 duplets to make a quad.
Put the quads on the frame. Usually we use one color per quad and if using 2
or more colors we would alternate them on the frame. We find this looks better
than trying to spiral the balloons.
5" balloons will look rounder if sized to 4" rather than 5".
For larger hearts I would use a large size. I would use a 9" or 11" sized to
about 7" or so for a 6 to 7 high heart.
A star shape would be similar, but you might actually want a slightly smaller
sizing for a 4 foot high star, maybe a 3" to 3 1/2" size.
