Hello Dave-

Personally, I would use trick line or the rigging line from (I think) the
John Henery Company. I believe trick line can be purchased from Special
Effects and other such places.

Or at the very least a nylon cording line that we have used purchased from
Home Depot. It comes individually or in a 5 pack of neon colors.

Now of course any of these can be >>cut<< but I like their durability. Not
really knowing the lamp standards can you tape the edges from a lift?

And if you are still concerned these will be >>cut<< I would then build
them on one of these lines and finish the end/bottom of column with a loop
and attach it with aircraft cable using either a gripple or the crimping
method. However, if you have never used aircraft cable it does require an
intial investment of at least $25.00 for the "special cable cutters" and
then the cost of your gripples or crimps (and YOU NEED a crimping tool) and
the cost of the aircraft cable.

This stuff is awesome....the gage we use is so small the size of outdoor
rigging line and it holds 1500 lbs. When we use this in our work (it's not
inexpensive true) but I can rest at night knowing pretty sure that I won't
be using my liability insurance coverage for the event. Ha! Ha! :~) And that
no little misbehaviors can sneak in and clip my lines!

Good luck,

This is just what WE do.....I am sure there are more ideas out there.
