Hello Everyone:

I had an almost horrifying experience on a job today and wanted to solicit
opinions as to what may have happened...

The job was to inflate about 50 balloons for a new dentist's office...he has
a recessed heart shape in the middle of his lobby and we were to fill the
area with balloons. We were inflating super Hi-floated jewel tones on site
and shortly after having the tenth one done, balloons started popping like
crazy!!!

The only thing we could figure out is that there were some odd "dentist"
fumes in the area we were working (nitrous oxide, etc.) that somehow caused
a reaction with the latex. The office was newly painted and cleaned, so
another thought was some of those fumes may have reacted as well. Finally,
we were working next to an Xray machine, and although it wasn't in operation
at the time, somehow that may have caused the poppage.

When this all started happening, we moved to the kitchen area, and not
another balloon popped, and we were able to fill the heart just fine.

Does anybody have any thoughts as to what may have caused the explosions? I
would appreciate any comments. Thanks.
