Subject: Need Help with Event Planning Contract Terms
To: balloondeco@balloonhq.com
Hello Everyone!
This post is not exactly about balloons, but hopefully I'll get away with a
teensy infraction :-) .....
As I'm sure many people experienced early in their careers, sometimes you
hope you'll get a job, and then when you do get it, you think "uh-oh, I've
actually been given this job"! I've been hired to do full scale event
planning services for a husband/wife 50th birthday party with a total budget
of about $40,000. A dream come true for my little business. However, the
clients (obviously!) want to sign a contract with me. WELL - I have a
balloon decor contract .... thanks in large part to help from the Balloon HQ
Guide, and a rental agreement, both of which have been reviewed by my
attorney and I think they are good documents. However, they are not designed
to address the type of work I'll be doing for this client. In this scenario,
I will be charging them a fee (% of their budget) to act as a "general
contractor" for all the elements required to bring their event together.
Tent, rentals, band, catering, decor (you bet there will be balloons!),
lighting, hotel arrangements for out-of-towners, etc. They even want to rent
a double decker bus to transport their guests to the party location! FUN!
SO .... Does anyone out there have experience doing Event Planning, and if
so, would they be willing to help me out by either sharing contract wording,
tips, or allowing me to contact them by telephone with some questions I have?
My attorney (lucky for me, also my brother-in-law!) and I have already
started working on this, but it's pretty much a new ball game for both of us!
If you can help I would be SO appreciative! I'm really excited, and nervous,
about this opportunity! Thanks so much!
