Deliza,
The issue of ownership and proper recognition for works of
'art' is a very touchy area that can cause friends and family to argue for
months or even years.

My suggestion is that you first email the owners and explain your situation
and clarify that you'll guarantee them full acknowledgment for their work.

By full acknowledgment I mean Name, Business Name, and Location. There
should be no doubt in the mind of the customer that these works are by
someone else and are displayed by you with full permission from the artist
mealy to inspire potential customers.

If your worried about promoting your local competition by including their
name and business then approach businesses who are not in your area.

Some artists may prefer to supply you with a reworked version of the photo
which would include their details embedded at the bottom of the photo.

You shouldn't take offence if anyone declines your request .........
remember many creative artists with the temperaments to match.

Copyright infringement on the web is just about uncontrollable and I believe
that if you are honest about your intentions then you should be willing to
set an example and give FULL credit separately on every photo where it is
due.

It wouldn't hurt to give a few lines about the copyright situation on your
home page and then clarify the situation on each page the photos appear. If
the artist is in another state or country then you might consider offering
them a 'link' to their site as a repay gesture. This way your client will
get to see a larger variety of creativity and the site they visit will not
infringe on you trade.
This may sound excessive but these photos are representations of someone
else's creative work and there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that they
are not produced by you.
NO MATTER HOW CONFIDENT YOU ARE IN FEELING THAT YOU COULD REPRODUCE IT.
If you are that confident you can do it then go out there and do it and
don't use photos of other's work to inflate you own ego. Remember these
photos are meagrely example of what can be done . not what you say you've
already done.

It is very easy for someone to 'borrow' photos from the web and display them
on their site and when they get caught claim ignorance and apologise in an
effort to save face. But taking without asking is stealing no matter if it's
from the web or from my photo album.

If you do it open and honest then some artists may even offer their works
for your consideration.
