Hi Debbie,
I am doing a Mardi Gras theme semi formal for a high school next
weekend. I don't know how good the ideas are, but they really liked
them.
1) we're using the awesome Miss Lily's 1920's style lamp posts in onyx
black and putting streets from New Orleans on them like Bourbon Street
etc. We are placing them around the room (school cafeteria) in the
darker corners and putting a park bench on either side of each lamp
post.
2) we're using printed paper that looks like white brick with ivy
trailing up it to cover up the ugly columns that flank the dance floor
as well as the trophy cases. Over the paper we are placing a large Mardi
Gras mask on each side of both cases.
3) for the entrance we're using a sop arch, on each side of the door,
starting at the floor and going up to the 3 ft. columns. Then we've got
a packed garland arching over to the other side. Of course, it will be
in the Mardi Gras colors.
4) the dance floor will have swag lights going all the way around the
ceiling, with metallic streamers and balloons. It should be really neat,
and extremely simple to do. My biggest problem will be finding enough of
the ceiling clips! Any ideas? Our local Lowe's is out.
