On the Helium question, "Will we run out?" Years ago I had the chance to
have a conversation with an "Oil Man" He made a living searching for oil. I
presented just such a question to him. His response was this as I remember
it. It could be all BS so it would be a good subject to research! He told
me that we have enough helium for hundreds of years. To an "Oil Man" when
they drill for oil and they hit helium, its "a bust" meaning they loose
money. They cap the well, record that it is a helium well and move on.
According to him there are thousands of such wells. I remember asking him
that if there were thousands of such wells why aren't they tapping them to
bring down the cost of helium? Dumb question he said, it isn't profitable now
to bring up so why would a company want to provide it at a lower cost. What
helium that is brought up is going to market and controlled to make it
profitable. Anyway, that was from one source a long time ago. It would be
an interesting research project to find out the facts!
