Hi Jeanne!

We have run into this problem many times and the only thing I have found to
cure the problem is to not drag out the line at all. I keep the roll of
mono in my pocket and it dispenses as I move backward. The material of my
pants provides enough tension to keep the line from unrolling too quickly.
It also keeps my hands free so I can pack the arch at the same time. This
works even better for string of pearl arches. It might take some getting
used to, but I think you will find it easier the long run.
Give it a try!

Help! How do you keep people from walking into your balloon line when you
are constructing arches in public places? We have tried caution tape tied
to various things and it still doesn't keep people from running into it.
They will go around it, step over it or duck under it!!! We tell them to
watch out there is a line there and they still walk right into it and then
they look at us like "How dare you put that thing there to try and hang
me!" Have any of you experienced this and what do you do about it? It
seems no matter how or where we set up to work, someone will decide they
need to walk across that area and usually with a load of stuff! If we move
the whole operation over and the line out of the way (so we think), they
will still cross over that spot. Even when people have run into the line
once or twice and know it is there, they do it again! It seems like we
have this problem the worst when doing SOP Arches. The line is thinner and
harder to see.

There has to be a good way to make something that we can reel out that will
keep people away and then easily reel back in. Like a tape measure does.
We don't have time to do alot of set up and tear down of this kind of thing
when we have to go from one job to the next and are pressed for time.

I would love to hear any ideas and I'll bet there are others out there who
would too.

Thanks,

Jeanne Cockcroft, CBA
