While we're happy to keep the info on various balloon industry records on BHQ, if you want it to go further and get Guinness to recognize any attempt you make (which I have to admit will do you better for publicity than to say BHQ says it's a record), you must contact them before you do it. Give them at least 6 months notice. A year is better. They will provide you with a strict protocol that you must follow in order for them to accept it. Also, don't assume that if a category doesn't exist in the book they aren't interested. The printed record book is only a subset of the records they keep. If you're interested in trying, call them. I can't find the US numbers right now. But their web site is http://www.guinnessrecords.com. For those that don't know (I think it's only been posted to the twister list so far), I just went through this process for largest non-round sculpture. (I just got home yesterday from Belgium where we set this record.) I designed a sculpture with Royal Sorell. With a team of about 40 people we used 40,781 balloons and no framing materials at all.
