In our paper tonight ( 6/21/2000) was a story about a local funeral home sponsoring a local balloon launch, for the WWII Memorial, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 at noon locally (2 p.m. EST). It said red, white and blue balloons would be released as part of a nationwide effort to raise money to build a National World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Family members are encouraged to release a $10.00 sponsored balloon in the name of a vet. The person's name can be written with a paint pen marker on the balloon before it is released. The local release will be with EPA-approved, biodegradable balloons! (hahahaha!!! Do they know that ALL latex balloons are biodegradable! ! ! ) The National Funeral Directors Association has pledged to raise $5 million of the remaining $25 million needed to build this $100 million memorial! About $75 million has already been raised! Looks like I need to make a call tomorrow to see where they plan to get their balloons! Debbie in Colorado Balloons 2 U
