From: ACES1CANDI@aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2000 18:01:32 EST Subject: mylar and fire marshals To: balloondeco@fooledya.com Has anyone else run into this situation in their area???? I was informed by one of our venues that they do not allow mylar balloons. Thinking perhaps it was due to people releasing them in the attrium area which is difficult to retrieve them from, I persued the discussion hoping to difuse the negative reaction. It seems that mylar balloons are not allow by the FIRE MARSHALL in any of our county owned or operated facilities. (this is a new one on me). According to the fire marshall: a latex balloon when exposed to firet immediately pops and is no longer a fire hazard or threat to fire fighters... BUT a mylar balloon continues to burn. So after the gas releases, there would be all these little firey 'blobs' falling from the ceiling (or where ever). I tested the mylar, and yes it does burn (and releases some nasty fumes), but I wouldn't refer to the blaze as a 'firey blob' just melting 'stuff'. just wanted to give you all a heads up on what might be the next 'gotcha' we'll have to face.
