First if your going to be outside with a well balloon decorated booth things are gonna pop just for spite. I like to keep my decor simple, my photo albums handy and huge, and my mouth open. " Hi, Balloons for the kids? While I'm getting them take a look at our photo album. There you go and here's a card in case you need a balloon artist for your next event." I think the raffle approach is a great idea to build up a mailing list on your own, you never know who is going to walk by. Not bragging but I made a little balloon for an older couple to take to their grandson and ended up spending several thousand of their dollars on new years on other aspects of their party not to mention what I made. Obviously those are few and far between but the little deliveries during the week and the last minute three hundred I made todat are what get you through when your starting out. I guess what I'm saying is that (to the layman's eyes) any dufus can blow up balloons, you have to sell you and then your work can speak for itself. Whether I am giving them away or selling them to cover my booth cost I have found that deco sprays and agates get the most attention from the kids and the parents (of course I also twist which helps). Did I mention that I would recommend that if you don't personnally twist balloons try to find a local twister that is talented for those occassional calls your customers will appreciate a referral more than a "no, we don't do that." You never know when that person could be of help to you. Remember YOU are the best balloon artist in your socks. Good Luck Tim McConeghy LORD OF LATEX
