Well,
I was able to talk to the prom adult sponsor. She admitted that even though
she did sign the agreement that she really didn't read over it and believes
that neither did anyone else.
I explained my reasons for that and stated that if two different balloon
people did the same job and one arch falls (of course it's not mine! LOL) and
hurts someone, I can't afford my business name to be attached to that
mistake. I explained about having different standards and would hate for
that to reflect my name also. She said they were just trying to be good to
the community with using two different balloon people like they use the Coke
guy and others. I did say that among balloon professionals it is not
uncommon for this clause to be in agreements, it's just the fact of trying to
educate the public that we do take our professions seriously and most have
high standards for our work.
She then stated that that not only were they using the other balloon gal but
some students were going to do balloons also. I told her that it is a
business policy of mine to uphold my agreements and I really can't take out
the clause.
She then said that they'll will have to back out and was sorry that no one
realized this before. She said that she did understand the reasons for my
clause, just at this time they would have to back out and they would
defiantly keep me in mind for future events.
Lessons learned.. make sure people KNOW what they are signing and they
understand fully!! I'm learning lots as I go along here.
The End. Feeling sorta bummed, but I know I did the right thing.
