How about stakes in the ground and forming topiary balls on the top of the
stakes.  These would be in the wedding colors and then connect the topiaries
with ribbon or tulle.  Also, put a bow on the underside of the topiary and
let the ribbon wind down aruond the stake.  By the way, this is a design
that I have seen in Images magazine from Lynette and Ann Rajski.  Very
pretty and effective!
