Subject: Re: sand weights

Just a note........We use those small water bottles...Fill them up with sand,
rice or small beans, put a plastic bag over them and tape them firmly....then
lay them on their sides... wrap them so they look like bon-bons, tying both ends
with curling ribbon and puffing out the ends...Some customers get us to
personalize the bon bons with labels saying "happy birthday" etc. They're
fairly attractive as a centrepiece. The kids love them too because they serve
as shakers for them to play with afterwards. Depending on if you use sand or
beans, you'll get a louder shaking noise! You could even use pop cans or
anything that's cylinder shaped!
They're fun to make and cheaper than buying them from suppliers.

When it comes to weights as centrepieces, I figure this.....why not make the
weights attractive with a dash of creativity....after all, they do serve as part
of the focal point of the table!

ALthough I have seen many creative posts re: weights, I personally don't have
the time to bother with making my own anymore, and quite frankly, I don't
want to be responsible for an irresponsible guest who destroys my weights and
creates a dangerous or destructive act. So, why not just use the new weights
available through balloon distributors that have the sand encased in plastic,
covered with mylar? No labor, and very attractive. Leslie, Balloon Wrap
