Subject: Re: [Attaching Air-Filled Garland ]

I want to offer another way to decorate the poles in the church. Several years
ago we were asked to do a Full Canopy in a Church Basement and it had several
poles (actually I guess they were columns. As memory serves me they were about
10 to 12 inches in diameter. Rather than work around them we decided to use
them as the columns for the canopy and decorate them to look like balloon
columns.

To do this we air filled and individually tied 9 or 11 inch balloons. then we
linked together 9 of them by connecting one balloon to the next with one
paperclip, then that one to the next one with another paperclip and so on. It
took 9 balloons to go around the column. Once the 9 were put around the bottom
of the church column the 9th balloon was connected to the 1st balloon with
another paperclip. The second layer of 9 balloons was placed on the column and
offset to fit in the indentions of the first layer (a balloon on the second
layer would sit between 2 balloons from the first layer). This is sort of the
same thing you do in constructing a garland where one cluster fits into the
groove between 2 balloons on the previous cluster.

We continued this until the column was covered. Then we attached the canopy
strings of pearls to the columns.

Depending on the diameter on the column you may need more or less balloons per
layer. I would suggest blowing up enough for one layer and make sure they
exactly go around the column and fits perfect. You might also need to change
the inflation size of the balloons to get the right fit. Trial and Error.
