This little piece was in the September issue of Parents Magazine. It was in
that part of the magazine where parents write in advice to another parent
who is having a difficult time with their child.  This particular mom was
having difficulty with getting her 3 year old son to the barber...

"Up to the age of 2 1/2 my son would not let anyone near his hair with
scissors.  One day, I asked him what would be a great reward for getting his
hair cut and he answered, 'A balloon.'  Now I buy a Mylar (sorry...their
word, not mine) balloon and drop it off at the salon before my son's
appointment.  After my son's haircut, the hairdresser gives him his balloon.
He looks forward to going to the salon now."
