Hi Jack
You asked about permission to use the "real cute clip art image on a CD
ROM". Although the copyright laws vary, my best guess is that the answer
depends upon where this CD came from. If it is a commercially produced one,
then you have paid for the rights to use simply by buying the product. The
artist has been paid based on the distrivbution of the product. You should
have got a copyright note to this effect with the CD.
If, however, it is a privately produced CD for example, created by someone
'borrowing' images owned by others perhaps from the web or scanned form
elsewhere, then chances are the images are protected and use would be
violating copyright.
