I happen to ne a manager at a restaraunt as well as a Balloon Entertainer... so I can see it from both angles, to a certain point anyhow... If someone were to come to my boss (the General Manager) about doing something for "free" (tips only) He'd jump right into it.. because of the joy it brings to our guests.... but if that same entertainer came to him later on and said he thinks he should be paid or they were going elsewhere.. he'd say "good-luck to ya." BUT--- that's him.. My point: if you are getting alot of contacts and making decent monies... don't give say "pay me or else.." YOU ARE MAKING CONTACTS FOR FUTURE PAYING JOBS... and what better place to do it than a restaurant! I do baloons at our restaurant on an occassional day off... and I'm always being asked for my card! If you are not being allowed to give out your card.. then they are doing you wrong... if they are.. hey.. give it to each guest.. even the ones just "watching".. you'll be suprised how many people you impress and don't even get a balloon too!! As a manager of a popular Restaurant in VA.. I say.. don't be too hasty in making a wrong decision.. Just mention it, don't give a do or die choice.. you may be without a regular gig quick... and sometimes those are hard to come by.
