Great topic, Lauren!
For starters, I'll do the mental part.
I try to focus on the smiles and excitement of the people I'm serving.
On HOT days, it is hard, honestly, but, I try to remember that it may be the
one chance I get to make that BEST impression on someone.
Remembering that EVERY gig is my audition for the NEXT gig helps, too!
Asking for a joke from the person that is getting a balloon makes times go
and gives a break as well as an uplift and some new jokes.
I keep things to drink handy,(lots of ice). I keep some hard candy &/or
breath mints, too.
In the car, having a wet towel in the ice chest, to cool my neck, wrists and
elbows is refreshing. [I can lay it on my face, too, even tho I'm in clown.]
When I drive, having music on a funstation is a great way to revive myself.

Well, the truth is usually just an excuse for a lack of imagination.
