Opinions wanted:

Is a balloon design copyrighted?  If so, to what degree?

For example... If I created a Santa Claus with sleigh and 4 reindeer twisted 
out of one balloon(no - I have not done it), then someone else took that 
design and attached it to a heart.  Could that person publish instructions 
for the "santa, sleigh, and 4 reindeer inside a heart" in a book?

What about a basic dog or teddy bear?  Does anyone "own" a copyrite on them?
