Gitsy,
If you don't mind would you please forward this message to the list. I have
the dreaded 6.0, and until my husband is back from training, I can't change,
but I would like to address this issue. Thanks!
I also have a listing in the yellow pages like Gitsy:
Special Occasions
town
phone number
On my business cards I have the same in addition to my email address. I
have
done this for a couple of reasons.
One, I don't want anyone coming to the door that I haven't corresponded with
on the phone first.
Two, I live on a military base, and even though I have permission to run a
home based business, I absolutely could never be "zoned" for business. This
is exactly what I tell people on the phone when they want to "just drop it
by" when they are to pay a deposit.
Honestly, it is the easy way out. Everytime I make the arrangements, I tell
the customer (whether they inquire or not) that it HAS to be mailed in
because I am a home based business and not zoned in a commercial area, and
if
I let one person come by, I'd have to allow everyone, and that would cause
increased traffic flow in the area and I would be forced to stop doing
business...just drop it in the mail today, and I'll receive it in a few
days!
I haven't had any trouble with drop-ins at all. However, since I'm listed
in
the "entertainment" section, I do get calls at all hours of the night with
the request of (think of a real southern accent when saying this...) "Will
you come and dance for me?"
How annoying! Somehow, there are a lot of "escort services" listed in the
entertainment section. I'm the only one who isn't an escort service (I'd
probably have to pay them for me to dance for them!) and who IS an
entertainer.
Well, as of a few weeks ago, I've requested to be removed from that list and
just be listed under Clowns and Balloons.
But can you imagine what a desperate fella might do if he's looking for
someone like that and not getting any luck on the phone? There are a bunch
of weirdo's out there and just because I live on post doesn't make me or my
family any safer than other civilians. It's down right scary!
So that's my 2 cents worth. If the PO Box is convenient go for it, if not,
only give your home address when you know you are only receiving mail, not
company!
