I've only had problems with the Prestige clear.  You
may have just gotten a bad batch.  Also, your
inflation method may have something to do with
it--some balloons don't like the force of electric
pumps. 

 In case you haven't tried them, the Qualatex metallic
assortment makes beautiful Christmas sculptures,
although if you're a purist when it comes to color,
there isn't a red--it's fuchsia, but makes a really
pretty bow on a wreath. I like the pearly appearance.
