In general if the same material were available with a choice I would probably opt for the book for the reasons mentioned in previous posts (convenience, portability etc.) However I have found (correct me if I'm wrong) that in the category of well known cartoon characters there are no book equivalents to the videos by Bruce Kalver and John Holmes, which so far I find to be best in this category. As for books, I recently purchased the new Cartoon Balloon Encyclopedia book by Flash. While I am happy with the book it is not specifically about making well known cartoon characters. It describes many different parts that can be mixed and matched. I did get a few sculptures from Captain Visual's big book - particularly the 4 balloon bunny. From my own experience the best cartoon characters happen to be in videos not books. Any differing experiences? I'll take 'em any way I can get 'em.
