When they call me, I expect to get paid. Sometimes barter, or only an honorarium. Usually full price or better. When I show up unannounced at a time of my choosing, in a costume of my choice, and leave when I like, that's a bro bono job. And I do quite a few. If they charge admission, sometimes I will swap for booth space and then resell the booth. That can be profitable for all three parties at the right event. Once I bartered for a terrific costume and now she does all my costumes. I don't do birthday show, so couldn't care less about "and you can pass out your card" as advertising. My card is so humorous that it is a form of entertainment, and part of my schtic. I ordered 20,000 cards 3 years ago, and just reordered 40,000 more.
