Subject: modified commercial pumps (electric OR hand)

Marty's sale of a modified Black & Decker electric pump spurs me to two more
general questions.
1. Has anyone else out there used an off-the-shelf commercial battery-powered
pump (e.g., for cars)? What kind, with what success, with what modifications?

2. Has anyone used a large commercial non-twisting hand pump for twisting,
e.g., a stand-up bicycle pump? I'm just a part-time volunteer twister so I
can't afford those astonishingly-expensive pumps I drool over in TMyers'
catalog. Perhaps someone has taken a bike pump and extended the nozzle up to
the top so it can be used while standing? Or does anyone have a 'recipe' for a
home-made pump with cardboard tubes? (I know the pro pumps pay for themselves
in just days, but that assumes you're not twisting as an unpaid/no-tips
volunteer!)

Thanks,
...Terry in Tulip-Town (Ottawa, Canada)
