somewhere in that 7 year collection is a post I sent in on this same 
situation.  I create what I call a "visual" for  child, which is something 
that can be seen from a range greater than their reach.  It's actually an 
entire routine in and of itself that causes amusement while diffusing the 
potential for becoming a volatile or uncomfortable situation.  Hunt it down, 
I use it often and it works EVERY time.
