Ed, I really respect how you value professionalism and I agree with you,
believe it or not. Read on because I think there should be more
professionals like you.

I think we are using two different kinds of agents. Mine is a booking
company with a non-exlusive contract (stated in the contract) and I'm sure
she wouldn't like me to depend on her solely to get work for me. My agent
works kind of like a temp service - she can get me jobs or I can get my own.
We have an agreed-upon amount that she pays me (usually very good) and then
she charges the client whatever she wants over that amount, usually much more
than what she pays me. I can also get my own work with her blessing, unless
I'm asked for a card by someone while I'm working a gig for her. That's when
I pass out her cards.

List, I'm sorry this sounds like a disagreement cause I think Ed is great -
if I had a 10% agent and an agreement like he is describing, he's absolutely
right that I shouldn't be getting my own work in that situation. That kind
of agent is a great kind as well - maybe I should be calling my agent
something like "booking service."

By the way, I've gotten some great advice from this list, and I appreciate
all of it - you guys are terrific. Ed, thanks for taking the time to talk to
me. I'm sure there's a lot I can learn from you.
