I've only been in two commercials, but here's my advice, based on my 
limited experience:

1) Makeup and costume must be FLAWLESS... the camera picks up the slightest 
glitch.

2) If the director understands clowning, follow their instructions. Do NOT 
try to do their job. If they know nothing about clowns, then gently offer 
suggestions on character, blocking, etc.

3) A commercial does offer time to be cute and funny. Pick one.

Lastly, I notice that you have links to Leon McBryde, Junior Jones, and 
Marcela Murad...  Why not follow their examples and improve your clown 
appearance before you make the commercial?  A professional looking clown 
makes a far more positive impression.
