Aloha...
I learned this feat a number of years ago and was sworn to secrecy by the 
gentleman who taught me. (But since someone else calls it "the old swallow an 
inflated balloon trick " I can comment). Since then I have used it in my 
magic act as a closer and it always blows them away.  I personally put the 
hole on the far end of the balloon and put the knotted end in my mouth after 
tying it off and showing the balloon around.  Sometimes I will swallow the 
balloon part way (four to six inches) and then bring it back out by sucking 
on the end and reinflating the portion already swallowed.  It is smaller but 
that is explained by the narrowness of my throat.....then I reswallow the 
whole thing ... this is the convincer..........
