First of all, there in no shame in getting paid for what you do.  The work 
you do is valuable.  It cost you in time, balloons, instruction books, 
videos, and training you put in to do what you do.  To be compensated for 
that is only fair.

Show business is exactly that.  It's a business.  I would simply call the 
lady up and say to her that before you finalize the event in your calendar, 
we need to talk about the fee.  If she does want a freebie, you can either 
decline, due to the fact that you may do balloons for a living, or accept the 
gig if you're feeling generous.  DON'T DO THE GIG OUT OF GUILT.  That's 
someone manipulating you if you do the event out of guilt.
