Sorry to come in so late on this thread, I'm sure you're all sick of it. But
I think it is important to encourage the kids to say "please" and "thank
you". Not for OUR sakes, but for theirs.
We do children (ours and other's) a disservice if we let rude behavior
slide. An ill-mannered child is likely to grow to be an ill-mannered adult.
Unfortunately, we see plenty of these folks everyday. They are most often
unhappy, unsuccessful individuals.
I expect children and adults to ASK for a balloon. If they say "I want a
dog," I put my hand to my ear and say "I'm sorry?" And I'll repeat it as
long as it takes. If there's a line, the pressure is on the person holding
up the line. For every person ticked off by this, I find there are at least
three who respect it.
I work a lot. People seem to like what I do. And I've reached an age
where I don't lose any sleep because some adolescent thinks I'm a grouchy
old fart.
    Thank you.

>Hi all, My name is Deliza and I am new to the list. I am a beginner in
balloon making and have learned several basic balloon twist. I had my first
gig on Saturday for a friend. Boy it was crazy. The kids kept getting into
my balloon bag, somejone took my balloon pump as a shovel. The pump didnt
want to pump ahhhhh. Anyway I finally got it working again and started
making the balloons for the kids. They wanted fairly easy things (thank
god). flowers, dogs, swords ect.. My only gripe was, I didnt hear the word
thank you. I think only one child out of over 20 said thank you. I had
this one parent come and ask me to make her daughter a flower because she
didnt want the dog I made for her. I was very upset but made her the
flower, Not even a thank you.
