Just to clarify:  the balloon does NOT get heavier; it just takes up
less area with the same amount of weight.  You're not adding more
helium to the balloon, but compressing the helium that's already there.
 The weight remains the same as the area of the balloon decreases. 
This makes the helium more dense, and thus less bouyant.
