I've been doing something along the same lines; I started with a
'lightning bolt' hat that I had see somewhere, and started adding
'things' to it.  I usually have a few 5" rounds (for eyes) on me and
add them to the front of one.  It's been getting worse from there.  :)

Last week at a Make-A-Wish raffle, I made a hat for one of the guys'
kid  that was there with them.  Every time (well, about every time)
they sold a ticket, I added another balloon.  It was dragging on the
ground before long.
