CA is pretty laid back when > it comes to busking/working for tips. I say that it is probably dependent on the area you live in. Here in San Diego, it is ANYTHING BUT laid back. People CANNOT street perform legally, UNLESS they have a permit issue by a park ranger (in the case on Balboa Park-- in which case you need to interview AND get a photo id tag) or a permit issued by some city representative from the area that you want to perform in (in the case of downtown YOU CAN'T. . . in the case of Seaport Village. . you can only busk in the grassy park area AND have a permit that you get from the Port Authority.). Otherwise, if you are busking on private property (i.e. Seaport Village, Horton Plaza-- you need to be approved of by the powers that run them. Hope that this was horribly confusing for you.
