The formula that I used for my approximation follows. For anyone who might not
know what the original wall size was and my answer then here is a summay:
A 24 by 8 foot wall would require the following quantity of balloons for a
wall. These numbers are approximate give or take 10 or 15 %.
5" sized to 5" - 3100
9" or 11" sized to 9" - 900
Since 5" balloons sized to 5" and wrapped in a four pack cluster are
approximately 12" wide. Yes the length of 2 5" tied together is more than 10".
My use of 12" is approximate as I was trying to answer the question without
checking on any notes I might have.
So if we assume that each cloumn would be 12" wide then we would need 24 of
them. Each one 8 feet high. Again as memory serves me I always calculate that
it will take 4 cluster of 4 balloons to make one foot in heightor 16 5"
balloons per foot. So each 8 foot column would require 16 times 8 or 128
balloons. So 24 columns would equal 128 times 24 or 3072 balloons or 3100
rounded to the next even hundred.
The calulation for 9" balloons was even more approximate. A cluster of 4 9"
balloons is between a foot and half and 2 feet wide. So I figured between 12
and 18 columns, but closer to the 12 and used 14 as the approximate amount. 8
balloons per foot (9" sizing) would calculate to 64 balloons in each column.
14 times 64 is 896. Rounding up to 900.
You will all note that I keep using approximate in the original and this post.
Certainly one could calculate everything to the exact dimensions, but in most
instances the approximation is quite accurate for calculating the quantity of
balloons. My method is to try and be a little high. Occasionally the
approximation will come out a little low but as we all know "Be Prepared".
Anyone taking the QBN and CBA exams should refer to the charts provided with
those materials.
