Let me think out loud for a moment.
We have a POS register, we have 2000 sq ft of retail space. The register has
18 keys for different items. we use them at the sales point. Do we look at
the print out periodically.  I don't think we can afford the respond time on
such a small store.  We scan the shelves daily as we serve customers and see
what we need to order sooner than the tabulation will show us.
On the other hand the "big Box"  were ordering is centralized and each store
sells what is shipped in to them. the POS system is necessary and daily the
purchasing department  has the info from several stores all consolidated.
In summary I think the cash saves on a less expensive register would be well
utilized elsewhere. I wish I knew this a year ago.
