"The Professional's Mark of Excellence"

What is NABA?
NABA is the National Association of Balloon Artists. It is the organization created with the professional balloonist as its sole purpose and reason for being. NABA's primary concerns are to:

  1. INFORM - to provide a service of current and applicable information to its members.
  2. EDUCATE - to make available continuing training in new and existing balloon arts, to recognize achievement and encourage excellence, and to assist in development and research in the field of balloon artistry.
  3. PROMOTE - to strive for increased public awareness, appreciation for and expanding use of balloon products and services.
Member Benefits
The NABA has introduced a wide range of member benefits and services in its first year of operation.

Publications
NABA produces a monthly Update, a newsletter introducing new products, highlighting events of interest, news about members, design ideas, and other current and applicable information. The Balloon Design Book was another major project for NABA in 1986. For the first time a full-color book of balloon designs and instructions was published.

Workshops
The NABA Training Academy, an 8 hour seminar, was develpoed and presented in various cities around the country and in Puerto Rico. Attending members receive a discount on enrollment. NABA trained over 500 businesses in 1986 through the Training Academies. Speakers have been provided for special events.

Other Assistance
A Help Hotline is maintained by NABA with an experienced professional balloonist on hand to answer questions, provide assistance in locating product sources, and offer general advice, ideas and tips. The Help Hotline has handled over 1800 informational requests this year. NABA is also interested in research and development in the balloon industry. A library has been established by NABA, housing catalogs and other publications. NABA has also provided on-site professional assistance for major decorating projects when help was requested. In addition, the association has served as a link for special event planners, recommending member businesses for professional decorating services. When needed, NABA has served as mediator in handling greivances with other member firms.

Research
A design studio is maintained by NABA, housing samples of balloons and related products from manufacturers across the nation. NABA uses the samples to experiment with new balloon arrangements, designs, ideas and techniques. As one result of the research, the first funeral wreaths created with balloons were produced in the NABA studio.

Other Projects
Several surveys have been conducted by NABA in 1986. As a result of a project survey, retailers indicated a need for a radio jingle which could be used to advertise balloons in their cities. Following up on the survey, NABA produced a 30 second radio jingle. It is available to members at a price well below market value.

A group insurance plan has been negotiated for members of NABA, to be available this year. Members may elect to participate in life insurance and/or a hospital plan.

Future projects include negotiating lower MC/Visa discounts, product sample packets, and advertising aides. A video library is planned for 1987, as well as seasonal posters for display.

Promotion
NABA has attracted national media attention through the service of sending press releases concerning industry events. As the headquarters for the industry association NABA has provided a spokeperson in response to media interviews concerning the balloon industry. Representatives from NABA have also made television appearances in behalf of the industry.

Convention
Planning and implementing the 1987 trade show and convention has been the biggest project to date for NABA. Members receive a discount on convention registration, and may select workshops from a wide variety of offerings in the Creative College.
